Abstract

This paper aims to reflect on the importance of continuing education as a policy for the qualification of work processes in the fields of Health and Social Assistance. Given the current context of dismantling public policies and attacks on social rights, the text is justified by its ability to analyze continuing education policies in the different spaces experienced by the authors, both in the context of supervised internships during undergraduate studies and in the context of the Multidisciplinary Residency in Primary Care and Family Health. The article was constructed from a literature review on the topic of continuing education and notes from empirical experiences, unfolding reflections on: 1) the Continuing Education Policy in the Unified Social Assistance System; 2) the Continuing Education Policy in the Unified Health System. The approach to the work fields in these policies and the study of continuing education highlight, in addition to the limitations, the potential of this policy in improving professional practice, the politicization of daily events as a form of on-the-job learning, and ensuring access through professionals who are sensitized to work alongside their communities in creating paths for the implementation and defense of public policies as a right in Brazil.
