THE RIGHT TO PEACE AND THE STRENGTHENING OF THE CULTURE OF PEACE THROUGH HUMAN RIGHTS EDUCATION 453 369

Abstract

This article reflects on the need to promote a Culture of Peace through Human Rights education, in a permanent manner and at all levels of education, as a way to transform social and individual mindsets, allowing a secure path to the realization of the Right to Peace as a universal right essential to human dignity. The article analyzes the concept of the Right to Peace and its connection to the Culture of Peace in the international order, according to the 1984 Declaration on the Right of Peoples to Peace and the 1999 Declaration on a Culture of Peace, both documents from the United Nations, reflecting the objectives of the 1945 Charter and the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The article focuses on the Culture of Peace as a set of beliefs, attitudes, and rules that instruct and regulate social and human behavior, based on combating all forms of violence, respecting differences, dialogue and cooperation, the constant concern to promote human rights and equality among people, the pursuit of social and economic development for all, and the desire for social justice, democracy, and solidarity among peoples, ensuring the principles of international order, respect for sovereignty, self-determination, integrity, and independence of states. In this way, it is expected to contribute to the educational debate on teaching values, using bibliographic descriptive methodology and the legal dogmatic method.
