Abstract

Emergency Remote Teaching (ERT), a teaching method adopted due to the need for social distancing caused by the new Coronavirus, led schools to change their operational dynamics, directly impacting teaching work. Teachers had to adapt in order to ensure that basic education continued, adopting various methods of work and communication with students and the community. Thus, the present work, a research excerpt from a Doctoral Thesis conducted with Brazilian teachers, aims to present the impacts that the use of social media had on students and teachers during ERT. The methodological procedure based on netnography involved the participation of 50 teachers from 11 Brazilian states. The study concluded that social media, messaging apps, and other virtual means were essential for communication with students. Furthermore, despite negative aspects, there were positive outcomes for both students and teachers.
