POLICE-MILITARY ORGANIZATIONAL CULTURE AND DISCIPLINARY REGULATIONS

A THEORETICAL ESSAY

Abstract

Every organization has a culture, which its members grasp through a series of operationalization mechanisms, as part of the process known as organizational socialization. This premise also applies to the military police, institutions with specific and complex organizational cultures. In this sense, using a qualitative, descriptive approach and a documentary procedure, this essay set out to discuss the organizational culture of the military police from the perspective of the Disciplinary Regulations or Codes of Ethics and Discipline. In consultation with the literature in the area, we discussed the constitution of the military police as organizations, organizational culture and the existence of police-military cultures and subcultures. Secondly, using the Disciplinary Regulations of the Paraíba Military Police (RDPM PMPB), reflections and notes were made on the elements of organizational culture identified therein. It was concluded that to understand the organizational culture of the military police, it is important to consider that it is not a generic, single and finished culture, both because of the historical formation of the institutions and their functional structure. In addition, the different levels of manifestation of the organizational culture of the military police show that there are declared values, i.e. those present in the official discourses of these institutions.
