This article aims to understand the mobilizing elements of the teaching career in Higher Education and discuss the meaning of this teaching profession, based on reports on the academic and occupational trajectories of professionals with a degree in Medicine who entered as teachers in Higher Education. The case study included interviews with 10 medical professors. The data was analyzed using Discursive Textual Analysis (DTA) and resulted in the categories: "Choices" and "Meanings", among others, not present in this article. The research showed that a teaching career is an important and meaningful choice for medical teachers who find fulfillment and satisfaction in sharing knowledge and helping to train good future doctors, a topic of global interest.
