Abstract

This study explores the plural and heterogeneous construction of contemporary sexualities and gender identities, highlighting the demand for recognition and citizenship. The research problematizes the social legitimacy granted only to heterosexual relationships, highlighting how gender binarity works as a social reflection that creates imaginary sexualities, marginalizing those that do not fit into current moral and social standards. Male and heterosexual supremacy, supported by patriarchy, perpetuates the annulment and hierarchization of gender expressions that deviate from the imposed “normality”. The study aims to analyze the formation and development of sexualities in a current context, questioning patriarchy as a creator of restrictive social roles and highlighting the need to denaturalize biological sex as a determinant of gender. Using an analytical and hermeneutic methodology, the research seeks to understand the diversity of sexualities and overcome a limited binary understanding.
