Abstract

Abstract: Prenatal care plays a crucial role in promoting maternal and child health. Dental prenatal care is essential to identify potential risks, provide necessary treatments, and promote oral health education. Objective: To assess the knowledge of gynecology and obstetrics doctors and residents about dental prenatal care, identifying gaps and opportunities to improve integration between healthcare professionals and dentists. Method: Observational, cross-sectional, and descriptive study with data collection through an electronic questionnaire. The sample consisted of 37 gynecology and obstetrics doctors and residents working in the cities of Maringá and Londrina, Paraná. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results: Most participants (87.73%) reported knowledge about dental prenatal care, but only 36% demonstrated understanding of the etiological factors of gingival alterations. About 75.6% of professionals believe that doctors and dentists share the responsibility for oral health guidance, while 16.2% do not refer pregnant women to a dentist. Conclusion: There are significant gaps in knowledge and practices related to dental prenatal care. A multidisciplinary approach, training, and curriculum integration are necessary to improve oral healthcare for pregnant women.
