Abstract

Sociology is considered part of the field of human sciences, with the aim of studying the behavior of human relationships present in groups and associations. The objective of this study is to conduct a literature review to identify the development of Sociology since the publication of the law making the subject compulsory in high school. A literature review was conducted using data platforms such as Google Scholar and the Scientific Electronic Library Online (SCIELO), using the keywords: "high school" and "Sociology teaching degree," combined with the Boolean operator AND. Scientific articles published between 2009 and 2020 that addressed the teaching of Sociology in high schools in Brazil and offered free access were selected. Dissertations, theses, articles with only title access, and those related to other teaching degrees in Sociology were excluded. The search with the keywords "high school" AND "Sociology teaching degree" returned 366 documents. After applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, nine articles were selected to compose this review. Sociology has undergone various biases throughout its implementation, from being considered an important science for the formation of citizens to being a neglected subject. However, one of its significant advancements was the creation of the law that mandated all private and public schools include the subject in their curriculum. Since the publication of this law, Sociology has developed considerably, and Sociology-trained teachers have begun to gain ground in the academic world, though not much, but it is a start.
