STORYTELLING FOR UNDERSTANDING MATHEMATICAL CONCEPTS IN THE FORMATION OF A PRODUCT'S SELLING PRICE

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the possible contributions of a video narrative to the understanding of mathematical concepts in calculating the selling price of a product in an agribusiness. The goal was to characterize this mathematical situation, describing difficulties and limitations arising from the use of mathematical content, which supported the development of the narrative for the promotion of a pedagogical action in the enterprise. Methodologically, the research was framed in a qualitative approach. The creation of the narrative followed the phases of pre-production, production, and post-production, being subsequently validated by expert judges and the target audience. The presented narrative detailed the context of the enterprise with the integration of sound and visual elements to dynamically present mathematical calculations. This material was considered by judges as suitable for the proposal, with the potential to meet users' needs, pedagogical potential, and an appropriate duration. Members of the agribusiness stated that the material helped in understanding the formation of the selling price of a product. In conclusion, this educational material is a potential resource for learning mathematical content in the formation of the selling price of a product, contributing to the appropriation of this knowledge and consequently strengthening enterprise management.

Author Biographies

Carla Saturnina Ramos de Moura, UNIVERSITY OF PERNAMBUCO

Ph.D. in Agroecology and Territorial Development, in the line of Research Society, Economy, and Knowledge Construction - PPGADT/UNIVASF. Holds a master's degree in Mathematics - PROFMAT/Universidade Federal do Vale do São Francisco and a bachelor's degree in Mathematics from the Universidade de Pernambuco. Currently an associate professor in the Mathematics department at the Universidade de Pernambuco - UPE - Campus Petrolina. Has experience in the field of Mathematics, with an emphasis on Digital Technologies for Mathematics teaching and learning.

Jorge Luis Cavalcanti Ramos, Federal University of the São Francisco Valley

Graduated in Electrical Engineering from the Universidade de Pernambuco, with a specialization in Educational Informatics from the Universidade Federal de Lavras-MG. Holds a master's and a doctorate in Computer Science from the Universidade Federal de Pernambuco (UFPE). Associate Professor in the Computer Engineering program at the Universidade Federal do Vale do São Francisco (UNIVASF), where he has also served as the vice dean for teaching. He is a faculty member in the Professional Master's in Public Administration (PROFIAP) and the Professional Doctorate in Agroecology and Territorial Development (PPGADT) at UNIVASF. He has experience in e-learning, Educational Data Mining, Business Intelligence, and IT applied to public management. He is a researcher at the Laboratory of Analytical Evidence in Educational Technologies - EVANTE and a member of the organizing committee of the Workshop on Educational Data Science (WCDE/SBC).

Lino Marcos da Silva, Federal University of the São Francisco Valley

Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics from the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP), with a master's degree in Mathematics from the Federal University of Campina Grande (UFCG), and a bachelor's degree in Sciences with a focus on Mathematics from the University of Pernambuco (UPE). Currently, he is a Mathematics professor at the Federal University of the São Francisco Valley (UNIVASF). His work is focused on Operations Research with an emphasis on Interior Point Methods. He also has experience in Discrete and Combinatorial Mathematics, Scientific Computing, mathematics education, and continuing education for basic education mathematics teachers.

João Carlos Sedraz Silva, Federal University of the São Francisco Valley

He holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering (UFBA), a specialization in Distance Education (SENAC/AL), a master's degree in Computer Science (UFPE), and a Ph.D. in Computer Science (UFPE). He was a professor at the Federal University of Bahia and is currently a faculty member at the Federal University of the São Francisco Valley (Univasf), where he works on projects in the areas of Educational Technology, Educational Data Mining, Machine Learning, Learning Analytics, Chatbots, and Information Technology applied to public administration. At Univasf, he also coordinated the implementation of undergraduate and graduate courses in the distance education mode, held positions as Director of Planning and Teaching, Pro-Rector of Teaching, UAB Coordinator, Telehealth Coordinator, Secretary of Distance Education, Coordinator of Professional Master's degree, and Pro-Rector of Planning and Institutional Development. He is a member of the Laboratory of Analytical Evidence in Educational Technologies (Evante) and a permanent professor in the Postgraduate Program in Dynamics of Semi-Arid Development (Univasf).
