Abstract

This study analyzed self-efficacy for physical exercise practice (AEPEF) among hypertensive and diabetic users registered in a Family Health Strategy (FHS) and its relation to socioeconomic factors. Seventy-one users from a FHS in a municipality in the state of Rio Grande do Sul - RS, Brazil, participated. Socioeconomic data, motivation stages, and AEPEF were obtained through questionnaires and records from the SIAB system. The variables were described in terms of mean, standard deviation, frequency, and absolute frequency. The chi-square test (p ≤ 0.05) was used to identify associations. After analyzing the results, it was observed that for most study participants, walking or engaging in moderate and/or vigorous physical activity when tired, in a bad mood, without time, during vacations, or when it is very cold were identified as barriers to exercise. When associating the self-efficacy for physical exercise practice, statistically significant results were found between groups in the variables: sex, marital status, and education level. The results allowed us to conclude that male participants, married individuals, those with incomplete high school education, and those with higher income levels reported more barriers to physical exercise practice.
