Abstract

At a time when women's place in society is being discussed a lot, this article aims to analyze the role of women in Chico Buarque's lyrics, characterized by techniques and constructions from the literary universe and impregnated with reflections on society and its complexities. The study seeks to understand the transformations in female representations in their songs and their relationship with the different moments throughout the Brazilian military dictatorship (1964-1985). To this end, without intending to exhaust the discussion, some of the author's songs were selected to be analyzed and interpreted based on literature related to the topic, especially the works of Marcos Napolitano, Ana Maria Clark Peres and Adélia Bezerra de Meneses. From the analysis of the texts of some of the composer's songs during the dictatorship period, we sought, through bibliographical research and content analysis, to identify the change in the role of women throughout the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s.
