Gender issues and the daily struggles women face in and for the city—especially in urban peripheries, where numerous forms of oppression unequally affect the identity axes of individuals—are often overlooked in part of the theorization on the production of urban space. This study aims to identify the strategies developed and employed by women living in an urban occupation in Londrina, Paraná, to navigate certain situations, carry out their daily activities, and remain in the occupation.
From a methodological standpoint, we primarily used qualitative tools, including semi-structured interviews with female residents of the occupation. Theoretically, we draw on scholars who focus on this topic, such as Davis (2016), Santos (1987; 2003), Rolnik (2006), and D’Andrea (2020).
Although difficulties exist—mainly related to infrastructure, both in the project and the occupation itself—the construction of a support network has become a key strategy in confronting the multiple social vulnerabilities experienced by women living in the occupation.
