QUALITY OF LIFE OF CANCER PATIENTS UNDERGOING RADIOTHERAPY IN A PUBLIC REFERRAL SERVICE

Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQoL) has become an important indicator in the evaluation of oncological interventions. Radiotherapy, widely used in cancer treatment, can affect different dimensions of HRQoL. This descriptive, quantitative study analyzed the HRQoL of 124 patients undergoing radiotherapy in a public referral service. A sociodemographic questionnaire and the EORTC QLQ-C30 instrument were used. The highest mean scores were observed in cognitive (84.7), emotional (83.4), and physical (79.0) functioning, while the lowest were found in social (68.8) and role functioning (68.5). The symptoms with the highest scores were fatigue (22.0), pain (21.6), and nausea and vomiting (15.3). The findings contribute to a deeper understanding of the impact of radiotherapy on patients’ lived experiences.
