Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the incidence of urinary tract infection (UTI), isolated bacterial agents and antimicrobial resistance in a non-hospitalized population. Methods: Cross-sectional study with urine culture data from individuals seen in a clinical laboratory between 2013 and 2022. Results: 20,011 individuals who underwent the test during the period were included, of which 7.17% obtained results indicative of infection of the urinary tract. Among them, 91.6% were women. Escherichia coli was responsible for 78.2% of urine cultures indicative of UTI. Other Gram-negatives accounted for 12.6%. Gram-positive cocci infected the urinary tract of 9.3% of the individuals studied, with emphasis on Enterococcus spp. and Streptococcus saprophyticus. The antimicrobial resistance profile, by antibiotic class, considering all bacterial genera showed: 80% resistance to tetracyclines, 40% to penicillins, 37% to macrolides, 15% to glycopeptides, 12% to quinolones, 6% to cephalosporins , 4% to aminoglycosides and 2% to carbapenems. Conclusion: Our findings show a profile of UTI incidence, bacterial flora and antimicrobial resistance profile similar to those described in the literature.
