About the Journal

FOCUS AND SCOPE

The Journal of Interdisciplinary Studies, created in 2019, has as its main focus the promotion of convergence and interaction between various areas of knowledge through interdisciplinary dialogues. Its goal is to disseminate information by publishing original articles that present relevant research results and/or trajectories of research and developments conducted by researchers with significant paradigms in their field of knowledge. The journal aims to provide an enriching environment for debate between authors and readers, encouraging critical reflection and the continuous improvement of knowledge through research and experience reports that involve the broad field of Human, Social, and Applied Social Sciences.

The Journal of Interdisciplinary Studies accepts contributions that address, but are not limited to, the following topics:

  • Articles presenting innovative and relevant results in the mentioned areas.
  • Contributions that promote dialogue between different disciplines, stimulating critical analysis and constructive discussion of new interdisciplinary perspectives.
  • Articles that may contribute to the academic, scientific, and professional development of undergraduate research students, as well as analyses and works related to the technical field of productions within the scope of professional graduate programs stricto sensu.
  • Studies addressing current issues and challenges faced in the various areas represented in the journal, particularly concerning class, race, generation, ethnicity, disabilities, sexuality, and studies of the Global South.

The Journal of Interdisciplinary Studies seeks to be an inclusive and dynamic space for the promotion of knowledge, encouraging collaboration between different fields of knowledge, particularly promoting the construction of new interdisciplinary paradigms.

PEER REVIEW PROCESS

The article evaluation process for the Journal of Interdisciplinary Studies includes several stages:

1. Preliminary suitability assessment – The editors evaluate the format and suitability of the submitted file based on the required normalization, formatting, and titling rules, as well as the use of a plagiarism detection system. Texts that do not comply will be archived.

IMPORTANT: Submitted works that do not comply with the guidelines of the Journal of Interdisciplinary Studies will be rejected, and the authors will be notified to make a new submission.

The Journal of Interdisciplinary Studies does not accept works that are under evaluation by another journal. In cases of works partially published in events, whether in the form of an abstract, expanded abstract, or article, it must be stated in a footnote that the text was previously published and underwent significant modifications, thus meeting the originality criteria.

2. Preliminary assessment of publication potential, conducted by the editors, which examines the suitability of the article to the journal's editorial line and its publication potential, based on the contribution it offers to the advancement of knowledge in its area of expertise. Once the submission’s admissibility is confirmed, it proceeds to the evaluation stage.

3. Evaluation conducted through a double-blind peer review system, in which at least two experts, unaware of the author's identity, provide comments and suggestions for improvement. The work may be accepted, accepted with modifications (which the author must address based on the reviewers' comments, and is subject to publication after meeting the recommendations), or rejected. Articles will be evaluated by at least two reviewers, and in case of significant discrepancies between the reviews, a third reviewer will be consulted. If discrepancies persist, the final decision will be made by the editor-in-chief.

The peer review process is expected to occur within 15 days after the manuscript is received, with two additional reminders sent to extend the deadline by the same period. After this time, if the work has still not been evaluated, it will be sent to another reviewer.

FREQUENCY

Since its creation in 2019 until December 2023, the Journal of Interdisciplinary Studies published bimonthly editions and, when necessary, special issues with thematic dossiers. Starting in January 2024, the journal adopted continuous publication, aiming to reduce the time between submission, evaluation, and publication. It is important to note that this process maintains the journal's openness to receiving thematic dossiers.

PUBLICATION FEE

The Journal of Interdisciplinary Studies charges a publication fee for its articles. Authors are required to contribute R$ 350.00 until October 31, 2024. Starting from November 1, 2024, the publication fee will be R$ 600.00 to assist with editing and platform maintenance costs. It is important to note that we do not receive funding from any public or private institution, and we are only able to sustain our activities through the contributions of authors. The fee will cover expenses related to spelling and grammatical corrections, which will be implemented starting in November 2023.

Furthermore, we emphasize that the fee should only be paid once the article enters the editing phase. At a time when science is facing significant challenges and many journals are discontinuing their activities, we have chosen to request this contribution to continue supporting scientific dissemination and encouraging young researchers.
