Abstract

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is characterized by significant impairments in communication, social interaction, and behavior, directly impacting individuals’ overall development and autonomy. Due to its complexity, ASD requires structured and continuous intervention, based on the integration of different professional areas, in order to enhance communicative, social, and cognitive skills. Multiprofessional practice is essential for the full development of individual potential and for promoting social inclusion, as it enables the sharing of knowledge and the development of joint rehabilitation strategies. In this context, Speech-Language Pathology plays a central role by acting both in auditory stimulation and in the implementation of functional communication strategies, including the use of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) resources. This study aims to report a clinical experience of multiprofessional speech-language intervention focused on enhancing functional communication in a child diagnosed with ASD, using the PODD (Pragmatic Organisation Dynamic Display) system as a mediating tool in the therapeutic process. The strategies employed, the observed outcomes, and the importance of family involvement and integrated work among professionals from different fields for rehabilitation success are described.
