Abstract

Percolation theory, studied in fields such as Statistical Physics and Materials Engineering, models complex systems like wildfire propagation, urban traffic, and epidemics. Unlike diffusion, percolation describes the movement of fluids through porous media, focusing on the physical properties of the medium. Since the pioneering work of Broadbent and Hammersley (1957), various models have been developed, including first-passage percolation and bootstrap percolation. This article proposes a classification of percolation models based on their regularity (homogeneous and heterogeneous), aiming to facilitate the understanding of the theory for students and researchers. The classification seeks to organize and clarify the main concepts and applications of percolation.
