Abstract

This study presents an integrative literature review on pragmatics in children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This linguistic skill is characterized by the social use of language, enabling social interaction and overall development. The research analyzed 20 articles from the last 5 years, of which 9 met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The main findings indicate recurring difficulties in maintaining conversational turns, interpreting communicative intentions, and adapting speech to the interlocutor. Such limitations directly impact social inclusion and school performance. The lack of standardization in assessment and intervention protocols was also highlighted as an obstacle to clinical advances. The article concludes that advances in research, as well as the development and validation of protocols in the Brazilian context, are necessary.

PhD in Linguistics from the Federal University of Paraíba (2016), Master’s Degree in Language Sciences from the Catholic University of Pernambuco (2012), and Speech-Language Pathologist graduated from the Catholic University of Pernambuco (2009). Holds specializations in Language and Educational Speech-Language Pathology, granted by the Federal Council of Speech-Language Pathology (CFFa), in 2024.
