Abstract

Autism Spectrum Disorder is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects social interaction, with emphasis on food selectivity. Objective: To evaluate the eating behavior of autistic students at a Specialized Educational Care Center (SECC). Methodology: A descriptive quantitative study conducted with guardians of autistic students aged 5 to 36 years from a SECC affiliated with APAE in São Luís, Maranhão, Brazil. A socioeconomic questionnaire and a questionnaire on students’ eating behaviors were applied. This research was submitted to the Research Ethics Committee (REC) and approved under number 6,586,016. Results: Of the 78 guardians interviewed, 89.74% were female and 71.79% had an income of up to one minimum wage. Regarding the students, 48.72% had a moderate level of autism. Concerning food, 73.08% of students did not show preference for color, and 61.54% exhibited restlessness during meals. Conclusion: Restlessness during meals was the most prevalent eating behavior.

O licenciante não pode revogar esses direitos, desde que sejam respeitados os termos da licença, que são os seguintes:
