Abstract

Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) are understood as potentially traumatic events (such as violence, neglect, and exposure to intrafamilial challenges) that can cause stress throughout an individual’s life, resulting, among other outcomes, in comorbidities in adulthood, both in physical and mental health. Intimate partner violence (IPV) is the most common type of violence against women and is understood as any behavior by a partner or ex-partner that causes physical, sexual, or psychological harm. The present case study was conducted by two psychology interns who, supervised by a faculty advisor, handled a complex case involving ACEs and IPV. Guided by Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, they carried out 20 individual sessions, all supervised, scheduled with intervals, culminating in the patient’s discharge. Due to the techniques used, the therapeutic bond, and the patient’s engagement, there was a significant improvement in her anxiety complaints, particularly regarding a turbulent relationship ending.
