Abstract

Inflammation in the central nervous system is a determining factor in the progression of several neurological diseases, with microglia acting as one of its main mediators. Considering the modulatory potential of spilanthol, a bioactive alkaloid from jambu (Acmella oleracea), this study aimed to investigate, through in silico analyses, genes and pathways associated with neuroinflammation. Public RNA-seq data from LPS-stimulated BV2 cells (GSE79898) were used and subjected to differential expression analysis, functional enrichment (GO and KEGG), and construction of a protein–protein interaction (PPI) network. The results showed clear separation between groups in PCA, marked induction of pro-inflammatory genes such as IL1B, IL6, PTGS2, and NOS2, as well as activation of classical immune response pathways, including TNF, NF-κB, and IL-17. Gene repression was limited and poorly coordinated. These findings suggest a potential modulatory effect of spilanthol on key genes involved in the neuroinflammatory process.
