Abstract

Considering the multiple dimensions that surround and shape human nature, or our subjectivity, it is also important to emphasize the relevance of understanding physiological mechanisms and their relationship with emotions and the establishment of affective bonds. In this sense, the present study aims to provide a perspective on our capacity to connect meaningfully, based on the premises of Neurosciences, as well as to discuss possible approaches of the new knowledge in the field for positive outcomes in couples psychotherapy, contributing to lasting and high-quality romantic relationships. This involves not only continuous physical desire, but also the strengthening of trust, affection, and shared spirituality. To achieve this, a bibliographic review was carried out, with a descriptive study of the main advances in the neuroscientific field presented in recent works, later establishing possible applications of couples psychotherapy in light of these new insights. The results point to promising perspectives, with interventions focusing on physiological and psychological aspects, paying special attention to the stimulation of the main hormones involved: dopamine, serotonin, oxytocin, and vasopressin, through practices of gratitude, attachment promotion, and reprocessing therapies, with the aim of strengthening bonds, overcoming wounds, and fostering the longevity of romantic relationships.
